Vale Of Belvoir Swifts
Swifts are long-lived migratory birds that spend most of their lives in the air, only landing to breed in a small number of highly specific nesting sites. The loss of these sites has contributed to a serious decline in swift numbers across the UK.
This website documents the development of our projects, sharing practical experience and observations to support swift conservation. All those involved value these birds highly and seek, through this work and related activity, to contribute more broadly to local biodiversity.

Vale of Belvoir Swifts is an informal group of like-minded individuals committed to helping address the decline in swift populations within the largely rural, agricultural landscape of the Vale of Belvoir.
In common with barn swallows and house martins, which also feed on aerial insects, numbers of the common swift (Apus apus) in the UK have decreased markedly – possibly by as much as 60% over the last two decades.
Getting the process right – sharing ideas, understanding swift breeding behaviour and safe working.
